AMP Comics' Widow Heads to the Big Screen
Widow, the upcoming AMP Comics graphic novel, is making the leap to film — and it's bringing serious talent along with it. The indie thriller, now in production in North Carolina, has assembled a cast led by Abigail Cowen (Fate: The Winx Saga, Redeeming Love), who plays a young mother on the run with her infant son, hunted by cartel enforcers and federal agents — with something far more terrifying lurking in the shadows.
Joining Cowen are Jackie Earle Haley (Oscar nominee for Little Children, Watchmen), Lou Diamond Phillips (La Bamba, The Chair Company), Rob Morgan (Stranger Things, Mudbound), Nadine Velazquez, Jose Pablo Cantillo, Jason Schmidt, Joseph Raymond Lucero, and PJ Sosko.
The film is directed by AMP Comics' own Don Handfield, who adapted the graphic novel alongside AMP Editor-in-Chief Joshua Malkin. Handfield described the project as "a film that weaponizes your assumptions — the less you know going in, the more devastating the experience."
Producers have teased that like recent hits Barbarian and Strange Darling, the film takes a dramatic unexpected turn at its midpoint.
